Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Excellent food. Reasonably priced. Margaritas are strong!

Food here is fairly authentic. I have been here once before about 6 months ago. This time I ordered their chicken mole, which came with refried beans, rice, grilled jalapeno's and onions, and flour tortillas. The mole was definitely not the oaxacan style I was used to... Almost tasted more like an enchilada sauce than a mole. Nevertheless, the chicken was very tender, and all chicken breast. The grilled jalapeno's added a nice kick to the dish. Service is always friendly, and prices are pretty reasonable...

Best Mexican joint in OR. The service and food can be a little inconsistent, but I've never left unhappy. The typical tex-mex stuff is typically good (tamales and chiles rellenos are A+), but I advise you to try the "real" (for TN) Mexican food. The mole is different than I've had elsewhere, but very good. The best thing on the menu is the carnitas. The salsa is surprisingly bland, but it's free. Beware the karaoke nights, unless you're into that sort of thing.

When you think of Oak Ridge, TN, the words "nuclear facility" or "department of energy" might pop into your head -- certainly not the words "Mexican food." Yet here's a city that specializes in all three, at least the latter -- at Hacienda Degollado. A transplant to these parts from California where you can find some of the best Mexican food around, I was a bit skeptical when my TV repairman suggested I drive north to Oak Ridge to enjoy "south of the border" cuisine. Desperate for a good Mexican meal, I took his advice. The place is rather unassuming on the outside yet bright and cheery and colorful and clean on the inside. I ordered one of my favorite dishes: Chimichanga pollo (chicken for you gringos). I have grown accustomed to a large, deep-fried, crispy flour tortilla filled with chunked or shredded chicken, onions, tomatoes, sliced or diced chili peppers, cheese and assorted spices and sometimes, a red sauce. It's topped with scoops of guacamole (avocado) and sour cream and sprinkled with more cheese and cilantro and pico de gallo. If I order the complete lunch or dinner, rice and beans come with. At Hacienda Degollado, first came the salsa and warm chips. Warm chips - just right; salsa - probably not home made from ripe tomatoes and peppers and onions and cilantro, yet okay, especially when I added a few drops of habanero sauce to give it more kick. Not long after, my entree arrived piping hot, just as I like it -- though not quite what I had expected. The chimichanga was the size of an enchilada, rolled up and lightly fried and covered in a white sauce and sprinkled with cheese. Sour cream and guacamole and pico dotted the top of the refried beans. And next to the beans was the rice, fried with onions and jalapenos. Yummy! Everything, though strange to my palate, tasted muy delicioso. Next time, though, I will ask the cook for a crispier chimi and to hold the sauce. The price was right, and the service seemed friendly and helpful; my server came back twice to make sure I had what I needed. I also will return to sample more on the menu, so stay tuned.

I'm from New Mexico and know my way around a plate of Mexican food. Very good service and almost too fast to finish an ice cold beer before the meal arrived. Excellent verde enchiladas.

Hacienda Degollado is one of the newer Mexican establishments in Oak Ridge. They did a nice job of renovating the former location of Jalisco's (it's a much more inviting place to eat than it was previously), and I've come to count on Hacienda Degollado for good food -- fresh and tasty salsa, various Mexican-restaurant menu standards "done right", and good margaritas. The food was OK but nothing special when H.D. first opened, but it got better with time. On our most recent visit everything we ordered was downright delectable. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 stars is their tacky habit of putting chairs up on empty tables when they are still open.

This looks like a Mexican restaurant. It smells like a Mexican restaurant and it almost tastes like one. I have to remember that I'm not hours from the Mexican border and instead in Tennessee. So when my senses hear ballads in Spanish, see the decor, smell the limon and chili powder wafting from the kitchen, my taste buds are in high alert. The chips were warm and buttery, just the way I like them. Their salsa was decent and came in a small carafe with separate bowls so you don't have to worry about double dipping. However, the guacamole was chunkier than I've ever had it as though they added cottage cheese and added too much lime. My husband ordered the mole and he said it wasn't great but it was good. I ordered tacos with ground beef with rice and beans from their combinacion menu for myself and taquitos with grilled chicken for our son. I am now learning that being so far from the border, what is normal for me is abnormal here. What constitutes a taco for me is a corn tortilla fried in corn oil (and in the Mexican restaurants where I've been) and here it means a fake, hard shell sitting erect on a plate. The staff was really amazing. Victor was our waiter and he was so kind as to take back the erect, hard shells and make me a real taco. It was delicious. Crunchy, filled with lots of ground beef and he gave me a side of shredded lettuce, sour cream and pico de gallo. The rice and refried beans were pretty good though I could have done without the melted white cheese on top of the beans. All in all, it was the best Mexican food I've had since moving from California four months ago.

Good food, friendly service. Loved the salsa! Had the carnitas mexicanas and would highly recommend it!

+ This was the only thing serving food within walking distance of the Hampton Inn after 9pm (sonic doesn't count because crapping my pants the rest of the night wasn't an option) + Though I doubt they were made from scratch, the chips and salsa really hit

This place could have gotten a 4 star from me but my main reason for the 3 stars is the lack of good timing on bring out the food. I went with the tacos from the grill, one of each, al pastor, carne asada, and chorizo. They all tasted good but my refried beans came about five minutes before the tacos then the toppings for the tacos came another five minutes after that. I had actually finished one taco before I knew they were bringing out the toppings. I'm glad they brought them too because it really elevated the dish having cilantro, onions and their house hot sauce. All in all a great value.

A must place for mexican food if you are looking for one in and around Oak Ridge. Delicious food and very reasonable price, atmosphere is not good too. I would visit often.

I went there for the first time with a group of 8 recently. Staff was friendly, but annoyingly, like at most mexican restaurants, server didn't understand english very well. My friend and I ordered a shrimp fajita which was very delicious, but when we asked for extra tortillas, server went into extended unnecessary big deal about how it would cost an extra $.99, which we knew, and just kept repeating himself like we didn't understand. It flustered us a bit, but the food was good and the margaritas -- A+! I would definitely go again! Word of advice -- if you go for a birthday, be aware that they are extremely loud! They come out with a big sombrero for the b-day person to wear and bang a drum very loudly and sing. This happened to the table behind us and the drum was so loud the first time it sounded like a gun shot. Scared the crap out of me! But we had fun altogether. =)

Atmosphere: Tacky Mexican Decor, sticky table tops. Service: Waiter took good care of me. Drink never went empty. Offered suggestions. No complaints. Food: Large Portions, probably the best place in Oak Ridge to get "authentic" mexican food. Salsa definitely wasn't home-made and the chips were a little stale. Chile relleno was good. Alambres Hacendados was good too, but the beef was sliced too thin that there were burnt parts. The chicken was juicy. The shrimp was cooked just right. I didn't care for the guacamole texano, it didn't have any flavor to it. Cost: Compared to other mexican restaurants, I feel like the prices were a little higher but I guess the quantity of food makes up for it. Overall: I would go back if I were in town but wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

The place was recommended to me on my travel to Oak Ridge so I had certain expectations. Let's just say they were not met. I sat at the bar. The bartender did not know his tequilas and the selection was small. He never brought my water and he spent much of the time not behind the bar. The manager (at least what I suspect was a manager) spent the night talking to a patron. No simple employee could get away with that stunt. The bartender never brought me my water and I had to flag down the manager to get it for me. Tortillas appeared and tasted store bought. Pork carnitas came out as 5 large chunks of dry meat that required a knife. On the plus side. The place looked clean and the food came out quickly.

If you do not get the tacos from the grill and one of each you are missing out. We are here on business and stumbled on the restaurant. The tacos from the grill are amazing if you like authentic Mexican tacos.

Went here for lunch on a Friday, lots of cars in the lot but a table. Ordered a tamale plate and a burrito (Roqeada?) that was the special of the day, good sized portion, good taste, low price. Unlike some other people wrote the service was fast. I'll try tacos from the grill another time.

In Oak Ridge on Sunday, going to Mr.K's used book store... we're hungry! Not many choices here for restaurants.... so we decide to try out this place... I'm thinking this we'll be a typical mexican restautant like cancun... its not! This was a very very good mexican restaurant and you must try it! I had the best Quesadilla I've ever had here. It was the Mushroom quesadilla.... I was expecting a tiny flat, cut in four pieces boring meal... esp, since it was just $6!!!! Instead I got a huge fat flour tortilla filled with fresh sauted mushrooms. The flavors were perfect, the cheese was a bit to heavy, the sides were very good too! Rice and beans, very good Guacamole, sour cream, tomato salad... my husband got a Shrimp Quesadilla that was filled with lots of shrimp, veggies and cheese, same sides for $8! The chips were cold and a little stale tasting and the salsa a bit mild for my taste or this would have got a 5 star from me. We will be back here next time were in town and craving mexican!
